Ike Spears is a native of New Orleans and a Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude graduate of Morehouse College (Atlanta, Georgia). While at Morehouse, he was recognized for his      outstanding oratorical skills and was awarded the coveted Benjamin E. Mays Debating Prize. Mr. Spears earned his Juris Doctorate Degree at Tulane Law School where he was both a Dean’s Merit Scholar and Earl Warren Scholar. 

Mr. Spears is a Professor of Trial Advocacy at Tulane Law School and formerly served as Judge Pro Tempore of Orleans Parish Criminal District Court. He was formerly a Legal Intern with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. At the Legal Defense Fund, Mr. Spears worked under the tutelage of some of the nation’s leading constitutional scholars and gained extensive experience in the areas of civil rights litigation and affirmative action matters. Mr. Spears formerly served as the Chairman of the Board of Commissions of the Housing Authority of Housing (HANO), the nation’s sixth largest public housing authority, and the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board of the Louisiana State Bar Association.  He currently serves as a member of the Orleans Indigent Defender Board (OIDP) He is an active member of: American Bar Association, Louisiana State Bar Association, National Bar Association; Louis A. Martinet Legal Society; National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; and NAACP.  Mr. Spears is also the host of the weekly radio talk show, “Person to Person” with Ike Spears on WODT.
